Story in 60 Seconds
The short version
Computer hacker Thomas Anderson, known online as Neo, senses that something is wrong with his world. Morpheus and Trinity reveal that his reality is a simulation called the Matrix, created by machines that control humanity. Neo is freed into the real world and trained by rebels who believe he may be the One, a figure able to challenge the system from inside. Agent Smith and other programs hunt the crew, and Cypher betrays them because he wants the comfort of illusion restored. Neo first doubts his role, then chooses to rescue Morpheus and finally survives death inside the Matrix. He ends the film able to see and bend the simulation's code.
